InDiabetes was started by me, Kritika Singh.
I’m a type 1 diabetic, diagnosed when I was 24 – Which is unusually late for type 1 diabetes (a.k.a. ‘juvenile diabetes’).
I was diagnosed while studying overseas in Australia, and like most people receiving a diabetes diagnosis I was pretty shaken up.
Thankfully, Australia has a number of supportive diabetes organisations and forums. With their help, I was brought up to speed very quickly on what my new diagnosis would mean for me and how to effectively manage my diabetes. And with this new information I was confident I could still live a happy and healthy life, regardless of my disease.
However, when I finished my studies and returned home to India I found it was a very different story.
In India there was much less information available for diabetics. And most of the information I could find wasn’t as clear or easy to follow as the information I’d had in Australia.
I also had trouble finding and connecting with the local Indian diabetic community, which in Australia had been such a great source of support, encouragement, and knowledge.
So, with the help of my husband (David Whitaker), I decided to do what I could to change that.
We would:
InDiabetes is our attempt to do that.
I hope it does, and you find what you’re looking for. If you don’t, let us know, and we’ll see what we can do.
